Rupa Jha

Rupa Jha, the BBC World Service radio Hindi correspondent with her roots deep in Bihar, was honored by the United Nations Media Award for her special report on insurmountable problems faced by HIV/AIDS patients on a daily basis.

While the first place award was given to a Chinese reporter duo, Jha secured a second place for her heartwarming, sometimes gut-wrenching report on the plights of HIV patients who she interviewed for her radio report broadcast last year.Jha's older sister Nivedita is also a senior journalist in Patna.

It may be recalled that Jha kicked off a new BBC Hindi program 'Aangan ke Paar' last year in October during a press conference at Hotel Maurya in the presence of BBC India representative Andrew Whitehead.Jha who is the host and editor of the show, had said the program was geared towards women and an attempt to make women see beyond the confines of their courtyard.
